Locust Art Builders: Summer Intensive for Teens: Just Another Day
Locust Projects is proud to present LAB (Locust Art Builders). Now in its eighth year, LAB brings together a diverse group of high school-aged aspiring artists from schools across Miami-Dade County for a four-week Summer Art Intensive for Teens where they learn to build an exhibition from scratch.
Under the direction of Miami-based contemporary visual artists, Monica Lopez De Victoria (TM Sisters) and Francesco Lo Castro, LAB is a unique, hands-on opportunity that allows student artists to widen their perspectives, gain new skills, connect with their peers, and meet local artists, collectors and arts professionals from throughout South Florida.
Each year's exhibition evolves as a unique and timely reflection of the current issues and ideas impacting youth today. The 2018 LAB students have raised formative conversations around subjects from fear and gun violence to personal identity and race.

LAB: MFA- Brian Vu: lung tone_mirror print_
Locust Projects is proud to announce multidisciplinary artist Brian Vu for the 2018 LAB: MFA program, an annual open call program that invites one artist or artist duo to present a site-specific installation in the Project Room.
For his LAB:MFA project, Brian Vu will present lung tone_ mirror print_, a site-specific installation for our project gallery. Currently enrolled in Cranbook Academy of Art, Brian Vu’s practice combines an interdisciplinary approach rooted in formalist approaches to contemporary dance, ceramics, and photography. The work is the first time the artist has merged his ceramic and performance practices together and the second in the artist’s lung tone_ series.
For his exhibition, the artist will create an installation of intricately placed mirrors and other elements that will act as a site for dance interventions that he will choreograph, employing structured and repetitive improvisation in his movements. During these performances, he will slather unfired porcelain clay throughout the space as an act of performative mark-making. The remnants of the unfired clay will act as a semi-permanent trace of his ephemeral performances, which will be on view through the duration of the exhibition.
