BEHIND THE VELVET ROPE
Performance and Talk by Overload artist Orlando Jacinto Garcia
Members Private Performance inside the Pool Grotto
Join us on Friday, January 26th, for a performance of Those at Peace Shall See Their Wake, an original composition inspired by Vizcaya’s swimming pool by CAP artist Orlando Jacinto Garcia.
This Behind The Velvet Rope tour includes a talk by Garcia about his installation Deconstructed Strings, which is currently on display in the Music Room as part of the Overload exhibition. After the talk, guests will be guided into the swimming pool grotto for a 45-minute performance of Those at Peace Shall See Their Wake, a composition created especially for the swimming pool, arranged for a string trio on cello, violin and viola, as well as electronics. Guests will experience Garcia’s marine-inspired soundscape within the context of the underwater fantasy ceiling created by American artist Robert Winthrop Chanler in 1916.
Overload is part of Vizcaya’s Contemporary Arts Program, a commission program that provides artists with the creative challenge to develop original, site-specific work in response to a historic site situated in the public realm.
Check-in will begin at 6:45 p.m. with a glass of wine to start off the night. The talk will begin in the Main House at 7:00 p.m. The live performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. inside the swimming pool grotto. Guests are asked to wear comfortable flat footwear to ensure their safety when entering the grotto area. Please arrive at the swimming pool grotto prior to 7:30 p.m., as you will be unable to be seated once the performance has begun.
